Breakwater Cove, San Carlos Beach, Monterey CA

Breakwater Cove / San Carlos Beach is visited by thousands of scuba students at all levels of training each year. When the outside ocean and interior of Monterey Bay are undivable, Breakwater is usually calm. Don't forget to bring lots of quarters! The City of Monterey seems to live on them. All parking, requires lots of quarters; $6.00 per day.

There is a deli / general store, three dive shops ( Manta Ray Monterey Bay Dive & Aquarius), Back Scatter Photography & Monterey Bay kayak rentals are all nearby. The deli has the best clam chowder on the Bay & Berkley White, owner of Back Scatter offers great prices on camera and video rentals / sales. Be sure to stop in even if just for a battery for your computer. Say hi for us.

All the dive shops are good and offer their own mix of equipment, goodies, service & humor. Nitrox is also available at most shops.

Breakwater is about a mile down Cannery Row from The Monterey Bay Aquarium. The row is fun to walk down after diving. There are numerous shops offering a wide variety of food, gifts & sundry items. Bike riding / rollerblading / jogging or walking trails run along the beach then through Monterey and on to Pacific Grove. Places to stay in the Monterey area are plentiful.
